The dim dip relay shouldnt do anything on dipped or full beam, only when the sidelights are on. Just pull out the dim dip module to break that circuit and check.

Are you sure it's not just a blown bulb? You didn't mention your checked that and it would be the first thing I would assume.

Check the connectors beside the bonnet hinge. They get manky inside and cause this kind of problem.

My thoughts too,(presuming bulb is ok?) main beam cables are Blue with white trace. Easiest fix is to cut out old plugs and solder wires together (how often are you going to take the bonnet off?)

This was my first "improvement"....bit like mini Anderson plugs www.vehicleproducts.co.uk

next idea was to do away with connections both sides and take wiring into bonnet "in one go" with a modern 13 pin trailer plug 'n socket

It's a common fault, and is likely to return, I'm sorry to say, because the existing connections aren't waterproof, but are exposed to all the crud thrown up by the front wheels.

The long-term solution is either to remove the connection and solder the wires, or put in a waterproof connector like Phillpot's.

I used these waterproof connectors - unfortunately I can't remember where I got them from: I think they are these - http://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/connectors/electrica... Fitted 5 years ago, no front light electrical problems since!
